SCIS Photo 2.0.1

The SCIS Photo App provides a new option for applicants to capture and submit their photographs directly from their smartphones at no additional cost, streamlining the application process for a Secure Certificate of Indian Status (SCIS).

This digital tool reduces expenses associated with professional photography and offers a practical solution for submitting the required image during the application for the secure status card.

Applicants are still required to submit a complete application package, including Form 83-172E, a Guarantor Declaration (Form 83-169E), and supporting documentation. Detailed instructions on the application procedure are available at canada.ca/indian-status.

Once the full application and supporting documents are received, the photograph submitted via the app will be linked to the application on file. Applicants do not need to notify Indigenous Services Canada (ISC) separately about their photo submission through the app.

All personal information transmitted through the SCIS Photo App is protected by encryption, and data collection complies with the Privacy Act to ensure confidentiality and security.

Eligibility for a status card requires registration as a Status Indian under the Indian Act. Applicants who are not yet registered must first complete registration and obtain their registration number prior to using the SCIS Photo App.

The SCIS Photo App should be used solely for submitting photographs for the secure status card application; it cannot be used to submit photos for laminated Certificates of Indian Status (CIS).

Currently, the SCIS Photo App is compatible exclusively with smartphones. Compatibility with other devices such as iPads and tablets may be available in future updates, with efforts underway to enhance functionality on these platforms.
